This was part of a trip to explore every province of Vietnam. After visiting all provinces in Vietnam, I took a bus from Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh to visit a new province in Cambodia, which is Tbong Khmum Province. The accommodation area I stayed in Phnom Penh was the same as before, near the Royal Palace, around Wat Unalom. This area is popular with many backpackers. Food and dining are convenient with a nearby morning market.
We can easily stroll along the Tonle Sap River or walk around the Royal Palace area. At night, this area has many attractions with bars and restaurants, so there is no shortage of places to enjoy. On the first night after arriving from Ho Chi Minh City, I stayed one night in Phnom Penh on January 30, 2016, at Silver River Hotel. The next day, I traveled with Pong Cham to visit a new province, Tbong Khmum. On February 1, 2016, I returned to stay another night in Phnom Penh at Tin Tin Hotel, located at
1-5 St Paster (51) corner St 118 Sangkat Phsar Thmey, phone 023986210. Many foreign tourists stay here. When the hotel I usually stay at was full, I had to walk into the backpacker alley to find other hotel accommodations. The room rate was about per night. Activities for tourists when visiting Phnom Penh: At night, I recommend walking around the Royal Palace area where many locals gather. Also, take a walk along the riverbank, which is set up for exercise and relaxation.
Both Cambodians and tourists come to relax here. In Phnom Penh in 2016, the alley next to the river has many open houses and shops playing loud music, popular with tourists. Morning activities remain the same; I recommend visiting the Phnom Penh morning market by the river and don't forget to check out the boats where locals sell fish.
When choosing food in Phnom Penh, don’t worry. There are restaurants for tourists, Thai food, Western food, and local dishes sold in the markets. Grilled and roasted fish are popular local Khmer foods. But don’t forget to try the roast duck restaurant I recommended; I think it’s very delicious. At night, look for places with roasted whole cow or order local dishes like Neak Chha Om Petum or stir-fried cockles with tamarind sauce. Try local food and enjoy a light beer.
This is the true taste of traveling with Mr.Hotsia, a satisfying trip in January 2016. Roast duck restaurant in front of Soraya bus station, coordinates 11 33 49.253 N, 104 54 55.589 E GPS (POI). Pork dishes cost about 100 baht per plate. Grilled snakehead fish at the evening market. The fruit shakes here include raw eggs. Phnom Penh salty fish porridge.
