Traveling in Bago on Your Own: Local Cuisine of Bago
Local Cuisine of Bago http://www.hotsia.com > Traveling in Bago on Your Own > Local Cuisine of Bago Information for traveling in Yangon, Myanmar on your own, traveling Yangon independently, getting to Yangon by yourself, Kyaik Pun Paya, Shwemawdaw Pagoda, Burein Nung Palace. Bago was historically a Mon city. I expected to enjoy authentic Mon food since my home is in Bang Bo, Samut Prakan, and my sister-in-law is a Mon from Phra Pradaeng.

I wanted to know what authentic Mon food looks like. But in reality, when I asked the driver, he said the Mon people here eat the same food, and there are no exclusive Mon restaurants. So I went to the most popular restaurant in Bago frequented by tourists. The place looked clean, serving food by the plate, no rice toppings, just spicy curry, fried fish, and a fermented fish sauce dip with vegetables that I really liked. It was delicious. I hope to travel to Mon State in the future, whose capital is Mawlamyine, a truly Mon city.
There should be plenty of Mon food for me to enjoy. Traveling to Mon State is now easier as Nok Air has launched a new route from Mae Sot to Mawlamyine. The introductory fare is only 1,590 baht. I have booked for October 2013. If I have the money, I will go and share Mon food experiences. mr.hotsia June 2013 Recommended popular hotels in Yangon 17 20 0.779 N, 96 28 49.859 E GPS coordinates (POI) Burmese fermented fish sauce, extremely delicious, purchased at a famous restaurant in Bago.
