The Shwedagon Pagoda in downtown Yangon, Myanmar, was built 2,500 years ago and stands 98 meters tall. It houses eight strands of Buddha's hair. The Phra Pathom Chedi is 120 meters tall and enshrines the Buddha's relics. Although there is no clear evidence of its exact age, it is very old. The Shwemawdaw Paya is unique because the remains of the original stupa are preserved beside it. The original stupa collapsed due to an earthquake in the city on July 5, 1930.
The old stupa looks sacred, with Burmese women walking clockwise around it in prayer. In front of the stupa on the stairs are two beautiful lions. The Shwemawdaw Paya is known in Burmese as Phra That Mote Taw, meaning "Hot Nose" because it is so tall that visitors have to tilt their heads back, making their noses feel warm. mr.hotsia June 2013.
