This statue is 55 meters (180 feet) long and 16 meters (52 feet) high. It is a large Reclining Buddha in Mon-style Buddhist art. A unique feature of this Reclining Buddha is that the feet are not aligned as in Thai Reclining Buddhas, symbolizing that the Buddha was still alive at that moment, just before entering Parinirvana the next day. The highlight of this tourist spot starts at the front where Mon Burmese vendors carry goods on their heads, selling items including ducks.

Fruits are sold while walking around, which I really liked. In front, there are also Burmese sticky rice dumplings for sale. Inside the Shwethalyaung Reclining Buddha area, there are many shops. What impressed me most was seeing groups of Burmese people bringing food to eat together. Young Burmese couples meet and get to know each other at the temple. The atmosphere is like a place for spiritual rest. While I was walking and taking photos, if I could speak Burmese, I would have joined their meal. What a pity. mr.hotsia June 2013 Recommended popular hotels in Yangon shwethalyaung buddha BAGO
