The ceremony begins at noon on the 13th with elders beating the drum to open the event. There is a Q&A about the history of the ceremony in the Shan language. Then, the drum is continuously beaten for 24 hours by the Lahu people. The people of Kengtung continuously worship the drum. There is a drum procession along the streets and lively Songkran water celebrations. I personally rode a vehicle with Kengtung girls to join the water play and to accompany the drum procession, followed by a visit to the hot springs and then to a Kengtung pub, which was closed. There was also a traditional dice water game (something like that).

For just two hundred baht, I experienced a full Kengtung-style Songkran celebration. During this Songkran in Kengtung, I hailed a ride with local girls to join the festivities, accompany the drum procession, and end at the Kengtung hot springs. The typical Kengtung Songkran formula is water play, drum procession, foam water play, then hot springs, and finally the Kengtung pub, which was already closed when I arrived. It's a pity the pub was closed. Mr.Hotsia April 2015 Kengtung Songkran Festival Atmosphere of Kengtung Songkran Festival
