Guesthouses in Mawlamyine While writing this, I am sitting at Breeze Guesthouse where I stayed for 6 nights. The price for a single room is 7,000 kyat per night. The advantage of this guesthouse is its location by the Salween River. All the staff provide excellent service. The owner personally takes care of guests and chats with us during meals. Breakfast is served on the guesthouse balcony overlooking the Salween River across the street. The morning view is wonderful. I wake up at 6:00 AM and work outside the guesthouse every morning.
I think this accommodation is the best and cheapest in Mawlamyine. Both tourists and locals stay here. The owner is Mon. I worked downstairs in the lounge area until this place felt like my home. They also offer currency exchange. I exchanged my last hidden 10 USD from my belt for Burmese kyat here. The service was truly impressive. They operate like family. Lonely Planet recommended staying here and suggested the elderly Mon caretaker to take visitors to Mon Island.
This accommodation has Wi-Fi internet but it is just usable with low speed, enough for checking emails. Electricity in Mawlamyine often goes out, which everyone understands. Hotels and restaurants have backup power generators. I recommend Ko Thant Zin (Tour Guide and driver) who rides a motorcycle in front of this guesthouse. I stayed here for 6 nights. It is the cheapest and best in Mawlamyine. Cinderella Hotel is not far from the river and located downtown within walking distance to the market. It is convenient for visiting Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda. Attram Hotel is near the bridge to Mottama with beautiful river views, close to Mawlamyine morning market. Breeze Guesthouse Mawlamyine internet speed, breakfast at Breeze Guesthouse, The Beach Guesthouse.
