Eating Temple Food at Mameya Ordination Ceremony burma temple food Making merit and eating at Mameya ordination ceremony at Kematiri Temple On October 27, 2013, I was invited by a nun I spoke with to see photos of Mameya at Kematiri Temple, Malamwin. I joined the event around 9:00 AM, just in time for their meal. This temple is exclusively for nuns, and all attendees were women. The atmosphere was like a local temple where people make merit and eat together, but here they use large traditional trays to hold food so they don’t have to eat on the floor.

I was impressed by the local Malamwin cuisine, especially the Burmese-style stir-fried shrimp that the nun prepared for me. I sat and talked with Shan people from Shan State living here. We could understand each other somewhat. Words like father, mother, one, two, three are used similarly. In Burmese, father and mother are called 'Papa' and 'Mama,' while Shan people call them like we do. I also spoke through an interpreter that those attending the event live in the same house as Mameya. This afternoon, I plan to see how it is. Over a hundred years, there should be some old houses from the Mameya era to see.

mr.hotsia October 27, 2013 Recommended affordable and good hotels in Malamwin: Breeze Guesthouse – I stayed here for 6 nights. It’s the cheapest and best in Malamwin. Cinderella Hotel – Not far from the river, located in the city center, within walking distance to the market. Convenient for visiting Kyaikhtiyo Pagoda. Attram Hotel – Near the bridge to Mottama, with beautiful river views, close to Malamwin morning market.
