Shitetaung Paya or the Eighty Thousand Buddha Temple was built in 1535 AD by King Minbin. The temple features a corridor tunnel nearly 100 meters long on each side.

Decorated with high-relief paintings depicting Buddhist Jataka tales, the temple has 1,104 oil lamp niches. Outside the main hall, small stupas with unique art line the north and south corridors. It is considered one of the most important temples in Mrauk U. Inside the hall, there are 80,000 carved Buddha statues, which is why it is called the Eighty Thousand Buddha Temple. The temple is located in the town center and can be visited on foot.
There is an entrance fee collected inside; one ticket allows access to several temples. The temple’s inner tunnel has a mystical atmosphere; it feels eerie even when entering alone—try it yourself. The exterior photo spots resemble Borobudur in Indonesia, though Borobudur was built in 750 AD, 700 years before this temple. Mr.Hotsia’s thrilling travel coordinates: 20°35'48"N, 93°11'34"E.
